We did it!
Moments ago, the news broke that Mitch McConnell is going to pull the Republican health care bill from consideration before Congress goes on recess this weekend.
That means there will be no vote. For now…
Make no mistake about it, this victory is a testament to the millions of people who stood up and made their voices heard through calls, visits, rallies, social media posts and more. You stood up for yourselves, for your families, and for neighbors you don’t even know — and that’s the spirit that made this decision possible.
But I can tell you this, Mitch McConnell is going to work relentlessly all recess to cobble together 50 votes. So let me make something clear: We. Will. Work. Harder.
6/22 Please call Sen. Toomey 1 202 224 3121 wi the message to vote against the Senate Trumpcare bill.
The Senate bill is out. Toomey is telling people that "nobody
will lose federal Medicaid eligibility," which is the worst kind
of lie b/c he knows better than anyone that the money will
be turned off at the federal level. Programs and services will be cut at the state level and all the "eligibility" in the world will not save you if the money is not there. I'm putting RSVP links to the 24-hour vigils happening around the state today at Toomey offices. Please make the effort to attend the one nearest you. If you can't, then call a Toomey office and let them know you support the vigil happening outside. The kick-offs are mostly at 5pm. 3pm in PHILLY. The addresses are all the offices of Toomey.
Call Sen Toomey right now 1 202 224 3121 or 1 202 224 4254 to block the ultra-secret Trumpcare bill.
Pleace call both senators at 1 202 224 3121 and urge them to establish an independent commission because Americans need and deserve answers about Trump and his administration's entanglements with Russia and their efforts to coger them up, as well as Russia's meddlings in our 2016 election. Trump's efforts to derail the FBI's investigations are grounds for impeachment. Congress must do everything it can to get the whole truth.
Context: there is word Trump is considering firing Mueller. An independent commission would be out of his reach.
Also: tell Sen. Casey you are disappointed that the DNC says they don't want to focus on impeachment.
Trump released his proposed budget. In addition to the cruel measures against struggling working people promoted in Trump's budget, also please protest that it proposes a 30% cut to the EPA, endangering air and water for all of us. Call 1 202 224 3121 to urge Members of Congress to declare this budget "dead on arrival."
Call Congress to complain that net neutrality should not be abandoned, that FCC chair Ajit Pai is acting in his own interest, not that of all Americans, that keeping the internet free and open is in the best interest of the economy and all citizens, and that Congress should do something to prevent repeal of net neutrality.. 1 202 224 3121.
They did it. They actually voted to initiate the repeal of net neutrality.
On a party-line vote, the FCC voted for the first step of Chairman Ajit Pai's plan to hand control of the internet to giant telecom corporations.
Comcast and Verizon may have won this battle, but they have not won the war.
Today's vote was just the first step in the FCC's rule-making process. We have until July 17 to put as much pressure as possible not only on the FCC, but also on Congress and the White House, to keep net neutrality rules in place.
The reason we can stop this plan is because gutting net neutrality is massively unpopular. So many people have made online comments against this plan that the FCC's website crashed.
We need to make sure that Republicans in the House, Senate, and White House all understand that if the FCC goes forward with handing over control of the internet to Comcast and their big telecom brethren, they will be held accountable.
Here's what we're doing to get the message across loud and clear:
- We're flooding Capitol Hill with phone calls against the Trump/Pai plan to kill net neutrality.
- We have a rally organized today at the FCC to call out this corporate power grab.
- We are building on our massive coalition to drive in 1 million grassroots actions against the Trump/Pai plan.
We have 60 days to keep net neutrality front and center in the political spotlight.

5/10 Call Sen. Casey 1 202 224 3121 and thank him for speaking up about the firing of FBI Director Comey, who was investigating ties to Russia by the Trump campaign:
From The Guardian newspaper:
Senator Bob Casey, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, said: “This is Nixonian. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein must immediately appoint a special counsel to continue the Trump/Russia investigation … this investigation must be independent and thorough in order to uphold our nation’s system of justice.”
4/27 Call your Members of Congress to oppose TrumpCare2, worse than ever because the ultra-right has been satisfied with even crueler provisions, like cutting coverage for existing conditions. Congressman Ryan Costello is on the fence -- urge him to oppose. And since it's very possible this will pass in the House, call Sen Toomey as well in case it goes directly to the Senate. Wouldn't hurt to call Sen. Casey as well and urge him to stand firm, with thanks. 1 202 224 3121.
The United States has been escalating conflict with North Korea recently. Of concern is that President Trump announced today that he plans to meet with all 100 senators on Wednesday, April 26, without their staffers, at the White House. We must send a strong message to the senators that we will not tolerate a US attack on North Korea. The time to do that is now. Use the Capitol Switchboard at 202 224 3121 to call your senators today and tell them that we want peace with North Korea. Negotiate with President Kim Jong-un. Stop US military exercises on the North Korean border. Join us at the White House on Wednesday at 2 pm. See this Facebook page for details. If you can't come to DC, then hold an action locally. -more-

4/3/17: Please urge your members of the House to sign the Pocan-Amash-Lieu-Jones letter to force Trump and Mattis to back down from taking the catastrophic step unilaterally of bombing Yemen's port, and force them to seek congressional authorization before proceeding, 1 202 224 3121
Also: Since Trump has blocked federal efforts to rein in climate change, the effort to do so now rests with cities. Here's what you can do locally:
All-of-us must ensure that our cities continue to protect our environment.
1. Learn about the Compact of Mayors. Check out this useful FAQ. (5 minutes)
2. Call your mayor’s office and see if your mayor has joined the Compact of Mayors. If not, convince them to join. (10 minutes) (In Phoenixville, 610 933 8801, 8am-4:30 pm)
3. Ask your City Council members to join the National League of Cities’ efforts to combat climate change by signing this letter. (10 minutes)
Way Forward will meet this Wednesday, April 5 at Schuylkill Friends Meeting (37 N. Whitehorse Rd, Phoenixville, PA) at 6:30 for light refreshments and fellowship. The general meeting will begin at 7:00 PM. Please carpool, if you can.
Also: Call your US Senators to oppose the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. 1 202 224 3121
Gorsuch’s extreme record has left him short of the 60 votes traditionally required to close debate and vote on a Supreme Court nominee. Instead of admitting defeat and requesting a more mainstream nominee, McConnell is now threatening to invoke the incredibly unpopular “nuclear option” and change 230 years of Senate precedent to eliminate the filibuster and ram Gorsuch through with fewer than 60 votes.
Many Republicans are very nervous about blowing up the rules over this one vote—and they should be. If you have Democratic senators, tell them to stand strong, and if you have Republican senators, tell them to back away from the nuclear option. The message is simple: if your Supreme Court nominee is so extreme that he can’t get to 60 votes, you don’t change the rules, you change the nominee!
3/20/17:House Republicans have introduced a bill to “terminate” the EPA.
The EPA is vital for the protection of our planet. Eliminating it could mean the end of clean air. No safeguards for clean water. Climate chaos.
We need your help to defend the EPA from Republican attacks!
This bill is just the latest in a string of attacks on the EPA. In fact, the GOP has a whole plan to “Make the EPA Great Again.” Their vision of a “Great” EPA is one that can’t eliminate pesticides, can’t use the best science available, and can’t rein in polluters.
It’s clear what House Republicans are trying to do. They want to damage the EPA so badly that it won’t ever be able to recover -- no matter who’s in Congress or the White House.
And they have Donald Trump on their side. Trump’s pick to lead the EPA is Scott Pruitt -- a climate denier who has spent his career suing the agency. He plans to undo the Clean Power Plan and give Big Oil whatever they want. Now House Republicans are helping him.
We have a real chance to stop this bill. It’s too extreme even for many Republicans. And even if it passes the House, we’ll push Democrats in the Senate to block it.
